My German mother was an interpreter for the Civil Court system in Munich, Germany after WWII and she told me that when Black Military Policemen would testify before the court, they spoke "perfect English" but when they were speaking among themselves, there was a shift in the way they spoke that made it uncomprehensable to her, a school-trained interpreter.<BR/><BR/>To me, this is clear evidence that there has ALWAYS been two languages, each to be used to communicate as the situation dictated. <BR/><BR/>In case you didn't know, the concept of Eubonics was "made up" in the very early 80's by a City Councilman in Oakland, California in an attempt to qualify Oakland Schools for more Federal Assistance money by claiming that the majority of the students were non-English speakers. Do African Americans DESERVE to be treated as inferiors if a certain percentage don't speak perfect English? You're not sensitive to the fact that to change one's language completely changes the culture in turn. Black people have a lot going against them in this country because white people can not handle the thought of other people not living out the "American" dream and becoming a cog in the money-hungry, corporate machine. Education is NOT limited to academics and independent study. As much as I support all forms of education and self-enrichment, people have the right NOT to be educated. And even so, college are DEGREE FACTORIES, i.e. you fulfill requirements and Penn State hooks you up with a job where mostly WHITE people work. It is up to the LEADERS, the PEOPLE in POWER to realize the injustices they are forcing upon other cultures. <BR/><BR/>America is lazy, period. Standards of laziness are relative. Our education system is terrible and prejudiced toward minorities of all types. This is why the A&E show Intervention is so important. It demonstrates how difficult addiction can be and uses a highly qualified team of specialists to address the core issues. The show really does a great job of showing what it takes to get on the road to recovery for some of the most difficult addictions, while also showing how it affects everyone involved with the person who has the addiction.
